Job Description
NO flipping burgers, NO deep fryers! Helix is currently seeking an experienced individual with basic culinary training or experience in a food setting to help prep and plate food in our ventless kitchen. Our Wine, Craft Bar and Cafe menu is focused on fresh sandwiches, soups, sliders, charcuterie and cheese boards, other crafted in-house shareables, dips, and appetizers. We are searching for an energetic, organized, highly motivated individual who will thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented bar and restaurant environment. Experience with special events/catering is a plus as we host many private events throughout the year for anywhere from 12 to 120 people!
Job Responsibilities
Basic food prep, including slicing meats and cheeses for charcuterie boards, making dips, spreads and sauces, and using TurboChefs and induction burners for cooking and heating various menu items. Knife Skills are a MUST!
The ability to safely use equipment and tools including sharp knives, meat slicer, convection ovens, and induction burners
Cleaning and basic maintenance of kitchen equipment
Plate food items neatly and creatively, so that there is a consistent appearance of plates coming out of the kitchen
Assist with unloading food deliveries, and making sure items are properly stored in refrigerators, freezers, and pantry
Stock kitchen with supplies as needed
Make sure to clean each work surface or cutting board before and after use, and sweep and mop the floor at end of food service
Other cleaning tasks such as taking out the trash, washing dishes and flatware, and using a high-temperature dishwasher are a regular part of this job
Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example
Ability to calmly and effectively multitask in a fast-based, busy environment, at times alternating between filling orders and prepping menu items or ingredients.
Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds frequently, move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and /or lift up to 50 pounds (with reasonable accommodations, such as a hand truck). You should also be able to climb up and down a ladder

Qualifications and Skills
1 year of commercial kitchen experience is required, preferably both open the line and doing prep work. We will also train you.
High school diploma or GED
Certification or previous training in culinary arts is not necessary but a definite plus
Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
Available to work a variety of hours, in particular closing shifts, including weekends throughout the year
Ability to stand for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the establishment, including slick surfaces in the back of house
An understanding of food allergy procedures to help avoid cross-contamination of food items leaving the kitchen
An understanding of food safety, including safe zones for food temperature and expiration date marking
Compensation
A Helix Kitchen Team Member's hourly wage will be dependent on your number of years of experience, and any training you may have in culinary arts. The starting wage is $16 per hour, and benefits include 50% off food menu items while on shift, 10% off your entire bill when off shift, and 10% off all retail items at Helix. In addition, Kitchen Team Members who work to prepare and assemble the food buffets that we cater in house during our Special Events are included in the tip pool along with the Front of House staff.
