Job Description

Helix is seeking an experienced cafe assistant manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our cafe at Helix. The cafe assistant manager’s responsibilities include managing inventory, processing payments using the cafe’s POS System, making bank deposits, and ensuring that the cafe is clean and well-presented at all times. You should also be able to oversee the maintenance and repair of cafe equipment, when necessary.

To be successful as the cafe assistant manager at Helix, you should have leadership, time management, organizational, and customer service skills, knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks, and a motivation to keep the cafe clean and presentable.

Job Responsibilities

• Recruiting, training and supervising cafe staff

• Preparing weekly barista schedule, working with availability and shift preferences as much as possible

• Educating customers on our menu, and making recommendations based on customer preferences

• Ensuring that all cafe expenses are within budget and identifying ways to decrease operating costs

• Receiving cafe supply deliveries and verifying that the correct items and quantities have been delivered

• Taking inventory of cafe supplies and ordering new stock as needed

• Resolving customer complaints regarding food and beverage quality, and customer service

• Suggesting new menu items based on customer feedback

• Identifying ways to retain customers and attract new customers

• Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or GED

• Bachelor’s degree or certification in business administration or management is a plus

• At least 2 years of management experience in the hospitality industry

• Proficiency with POS software and credit card terminals

• A certification as a Food Protection Manager

• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations, and allergen awareness

• Exemplary management skills

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Effective communication skils

• Excellent customer service skills

Compensation

The Helix Cafe Assistant Manager’s salary will be dependent on your number of years of experience in cafe management, and any education you may have in Hospitality or Restaurant Management. The salary range for this position is $30,000 to $40,000 a year, and you will be eligible for 2 weeks of vacation per year, after 6 months of employment.
