Job Description
Helix is currently seeking exceptional candidates to help support our service team. Without the Barback, there is no bar! We are searching for extremely organized, energetic, multitasking, highly motivated individuals who will thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented bar & restaurant environment.
Job Responsibilities
Stock/restock appropriate areas of the main bar and rooftop bar (in season) with alcohol, glassware, ice, and supplies
Arrange and set up beverages, mixes, garnishes, and supplies, and prepare drink mixes
Available to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends
Safely and effectively transport filled glass racks, ice and cases of liquor, beer and wine, and kegs of beer
Able to safely tolerate hands frequently being exposed to liquids, including water, cleaning solutions, various alcohols and juices.
Safely and effectively operate all tools necessary to prepare and garnish drinks, including a blender, knives, citrus peeler, and corkscrew
Ability to communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements, whether by written instructions or spoken directions
Ability to calmly and effectively multitask in a fast-based, busy environment
Keep the bar stocked with liquor, syrups, glasses, napkins, and all other necessary supplies before and during service hours
Prepare garnishes, refill ice wells, change beer kegs, and refill napkins and straws
Clean up spills, remove used glassware and organize the bar counter
Safely and properly change beer kegs, CO2 tanks and soda dispensers
Safely and effectively operate high temperature dishwasher as needed, to assist Bartender with cleaning glassware
Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines to keep Helix a healthy space
Handle emergency situations, such as cleaning up broken glasses and clearing clogged drains
Follow all company rules, policies and conditions of employment, as outlined in the Helix Employee Handbook
Work well with others in order to help Team Helix thrive
Qualifications and Skills
At least 2 years of experience in this same role
High school diploma or GED
Self-motivated
Strong communication skills
A positive and friendly attitude towards guests and co-workers
Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
Proactive, not reactive, with the ability to anticipate the needs of the Bartender
Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and /or lift up to 60 pounds (with reasonable accommodations, such as a hand truck). You should also be able to climb up and down a ladder
Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the establishment, which may include stairs and slick surfaces
Available to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends
Compensation
Starting base wage is $14-$18/hour plus a share of tips. Wage is negotiable and dependent on your number of years of experience in this same position. Enjoy 50% off two food menu items per shift, and 10% off all retail when you work 15 or more hours per week. (Some restrictions apply—see Employee Handbook for details).
